Back to School Again

Many pass on their first attempt, berating those for whom the seventh time is still not a charm, and when the day arrives when you are finally rescued from the confines of 'L' plates and an instructor a new sense of freedom and independence sets in that is incredibly difficult to relinquish.
However, the price of freedom does not come cheap and new drivers, faced with higher than ever car insurance premiums, are being persuaded to put their independence on hold and enter themselves for the Pass Plus motoring course. Of course, it is usually the parents of a new driver who will insist on further motoring education as they are more often than not the one faced with paying the enormous bill delivered by the insurance company. The costs of insurance can be cut by up to a third if drivers take a Pass Plus motoring course, and it is not only new drivers who could benefit from a little more education. More experienced drivers can also expect dramatically reduced costs by putting themselves forward for one of a variety of advanced driving courses, which build on the skills that they were required to learn when they passed their initial test. Those who have been driving for a number of years may find that they have picked up a host of bad habits, from only using one hand to turn the steering wheel, and riding the clutch, to speeding in residential roads with a 25mph limit, not slowing down at roundabouts and not stopping at pedestrian crossings. The £180 six-hour Pass Plus course could really benefit these drivers who need a refresher in good and safe road conduct. A number of drivers reminisce on their days as a learner with great fondness, while others remember it with fear and trepidation of inpatient parents losing their temper while their petrified offspring attempts their third unsuccessful reverse around a corner. This and other traumatic teaching experiences are a key reason as to why few motorists are willing to subject themselves to further lessons once they have achieved the holy grail of actually passing their test and earning the right to drive a car without the assistance of an irate elder. The inevitable nerves and anxiety of performing under pressure and the judgement of one with motoring authority who will determine our driver status is another significant problem for those taking their initial driving test, yet although taking the Pass Plus course will not have any affect on your ownership of a driving license, the nerves equated to being tested still remain. However, the principal aim of Pass Plus is to further develop the skills one has already accumulated in their driving lifetime. The instructors on a Pass Plus course approach the teaching in a friendly and relaxed manner, with the intention of improving upon technique and alerting divers to where they are making mistakes, for instance not using their mirrors adequately. On the other hand, they will also concentrate on the driver's good points and by increasing awareness of when one is doing something correctly, this will show the affect that doing something badly can have on driving in general.
